Black Owned Business Southern Fixings Pralines Taking Over One State At A Time

Natasha Jones started making pralines at a very young age with her mom. She would let her stand on a chair right next to her and stir the candy mixture while she added the pecans. All of Press Park (a neighborhood located in the 9th ward of New Orleans) knew when they were making pralines because they could smell the vanilla coming straight thru our kitchen screen door. Natasha would then start to rub lots of butter on their kitchen counter for her mom to pour the mixture out. Natasha always burned her fingertips because she just could not wait for the candy to cool. She loved her pralines warm and soft like a cookie, but her mom liked them hard and crunchy. So Natasha decided to use part of her mom's recipe with her own twist making hers s bite-size and soft like a cookie with lots of different flavors. So many friends and relatives liked her pralines that she decided to start Southern Fixings Pralines. After hurricane Katrina Natasha and her family moved to St. John Parish right outside of New Orleans about 30 minutes from where she grew up. She still has close ties to her city and lots of family and friends there. She has also had the opportunity to sell her delicious pralines in some of Louisiana's famous local supermarkets such as Langenstiens, Dorignac's, and Robert's supermarkets. Matherne's Supermarket in Laplace is the home of Southern Fixings Pralines. Mr. Scott the Store director really took time and interest in Natasha and her business. He taught her a great deal about what the customers want and how to market her product. Natasha's husband Desi Jones (her backbone) has much knowledge and great ties with the local community that keeps her focused and growing Southern Fixings Pralines.

This is a tasty New Orleans treat you definitely need to try.
